Loss Pills

Weight loss pills can be broken down into 3 basic categories:

  • Appetite Suppressants: These work just like it sounds. The appetite-regulating region of your brain (the hypothalamus) is tricked by blockage of the re-uptake of serotonin and nor epinephrine. As a result you feel like you’ve just eaten a big meal, so you’re less likely to overeat.

  • Stimulants: These types of weight loss pills used to contain a combination of ephedrine and caffeine to raise energy expenditure while also reducing appetite. You’re probably aware that these pills were proven in some cases to be deadly, so ephedrine was taken off the market. Stimulant pills now contain other ephedrine-like substances, vitamins and caffeine. The idea is to increase energy and boost metabolism.

  • Fat Blockers: These pills inhibit the action of the enzyme lipase, which is responsible for breaking down fat during the digestion process. The goal is to prevent a percentage of the fat you’ve eaten from being absorbed into your system.

So we return to our burning question. Do the pills work? Here’s what the diet pill companies say:

  1. You’ll lose 30lbs in 30 days
  2. Achieve rapid weight loss results
  3. Burn calories and fat 24 hours a day
  4. Fights fat and delivers rapid weight loss

Weight loss medication

If you want to know about Xenical weight loss medication, read through the following page. This page answers most of the basic queries related to this weight loss drug. However, this is not an all-inclusive information page and you must consult a doctor to know everything about this weight loss medication. This page aims to give you a basic guide of uses and side effects of Xenical weight loss medication and is not a comprehensive list of information, so always consult a doctor.

There are many weight loss medications, both prescription and otherwise, that help in weight loss. Xenical is a prescription weight loss medication. It is available online and in brick and mortar pharmacies in most countries of the world.

Xenical weight loss pills are designed to be used along with a mildly reduced-calorie diet (a diet that includes no more than 30% of its calories from fat). A regular exercise program is also an important part of any weight-loss treatment plan. Xenical weight loss pills should not be used as a substitute for healthy eating or regular exercise.

Xenical Weight Loss Pills - How They Work

Xenical (Orlistat) works in the gut (not in the brain) to prevent your intestines from absorbing some of the fat from the food you eat. When taken 3 times a day, Xenical weight loss pills block about one-third of the fat you eat from being absorbed. Instead, this fat passes through your intestines and is excreted. By absorbing less fat, you take in fewer calories, which causes weight loss.

Xenical Weight Loss Pills - Do They Work

Most people lose weight when they take Xenical and follow a calorie-reduced diet.

Studies on Xenical Weight Loss Pills

Obese people who followed a reduced-calorie diet and took Xenical for 12 months lost an average of 8.5 percent of their body weight. Obese people who followed the same diet but did not take Xenical lost an average of 5.4 percent of their body weight.

An analysis of 5 studies found that Xenical combined with a reduced-calorie diet resulted in weight loss of 13.4 lb (6.1 kg) over 1 to 2 years. If the diet alone was followed, weight loss was 5.7 lb (2.6 kg). About 20 percent of those using Xenical plus a reduced-calorie diet lost more than 10 percent of their body weight, compared to 8.3 percent of those who used only the diet.

An analysis of 2 studies found that 28.2 percent to 33 percent of those using Xenical and a reduced-calorie diet the first year and a weight-management diet the second year were able to maintain their weight loss for 2 years, compared to 6.6 percent to 18.6 percent of those who followed the diets but did not take Xenical.

Xenical Studies

Many clinical trials have been carried out with Xenical. The FDA reports that over 4,000 obese participants were studied over 7 clinical trials prior to Xenical FDA approval. The research suggests that Xenical can help to promote weight loss
when used in conjunction with increased physical activity and low fat diet. All participants used Xenical in conjunction with a low fat, reduced calorie diet and regular physical exercise.

Xenical Studies

In the study participants who completed one year of treatment:

· 57% of those taking Xenical lost at least 5% of their original body weight

· 31% of those taking a placebo lost at least 5% of their original body weight

In one of the seven studies:

· Those taking Xenical lost an average of 22.7 pounds

· Those taking a placebo lost an average of 13.4 pounds

The results of these clinical trials led to the following recommendations by the FDA:

· Xenical only be prescribed to individuals with a BMI of 30 or higher

· The exception to the above rule are for individuals with a BMI of 27 or higher who have high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes

Research on Xenical has also demonstrated that Xenical can not only promote successful weight loss when combined with diet and exercise, but may also have a small, but positive, effect in decreasing total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, insulin levels and blood pressure.
